Is it too late to start a podcast?

// The short answer

No. Lots of people start a podcast and quit within the first few episodes, so the bar for standing out is much lower than it looks. Video podcasts are growing fast, and live shows in particular are still wide open.

Most people stop early

People go, “I’m going to start a podcast.” And by episode three, they’ve already quit. It’s already become unsustainable.

Which sounds depressing, but it’s great news for you. It means it’s easier than ever to make an impact, as long as you keep going.

The bar is lower than you think

When I looked at my Spotify Wrapped, my podcast was in the top five shows for eleven people, and I’d barely paid it any attention. I’m telling you that so you know the bar is lower than you think. It’s way lower than you think.

Video and live are where it’s going

Podcasting is heading towards video. Video is now the dominant format, especially on Spotify.

And a live show gives you something a polished recording can’t: proof there’s a real person there. In a feed full of AI-made content, that matters more every month.
